How to use Berean Study

Everything from your first question to running a Bible class. Start at the top if you are new, or jump to the part you need.

Quick Start

Three steps and about five minutes. You do not need a paid plan to try any of this.

Create your account

  1. 1Open study.bereanstudy.app in any browser, or install the app from the App Store or Google Play.
  2. 2Choose Sign up, enter your email and a password, then confirm the verification email we send you.
  3. 3Sign in. The same account works on the web and on your phone β€” your studies follow you between them.

Ask your first question

  1. 1You land on the πŸ’¬ Q&A tab. Type a real question β€” β€œWhat does the Bible teach about forgiveness?” works better than a single word.
  2. 2Berean Study searches Scripture and the trusted library, then writes an organized answer.
  3. 3Every claim carries a citation. Tap a source to read the passage or article it came from and judge it for yourself.

Keep the answer

  1. 1Ask a follow-up right in the same thread β€” it remembers what you were just discussing.
  2. 2Use the icons under an answer to save it to favorites, print it, share a link, or send it to Google Docs or Slides.
  3. 3Everything you save stays in your history, searchable and editable later.

What β€œfree” gets you

A new free account starts with 10 welcome questions to use whenever you like, and then 2 questions a week after that. Every study tool and every citation is included at the free level β€” a paid plan lifts the limit, it does not unlock the basics.

Tip β€” Welcome questions never expire, so there is no rush to spend them. Your remaining balance is shown on the Account screen.

The Six Tabs

Berean Study is organized around six places. This is what each one is for and how to get the most out of it.

Q&A

Ask a Bible question and get an organized, cited answer.

Step by step

  1. 1Type your question and send it. Longer questions give better answers β€” say what you already believe, what confuses you, or who you are teaching.
  2. 2Read the answer with its sources. Each citation names where the point came from so you can check it.
  3. 3Keep going in the same thread. Follow-ups such as β€œwhat about Romans 6?” stay in context.

Worth knowing

  • Good first questions: β€œWhat does the Bible say about baptism?”, β€œExplain the parable of the sower verse by verse.”
  • Ask it to compare passages, define a word, or lay out both sides of a question.
  • Threads are saved automatically β€” reopen one from your history any time.

Tip β€” If an answer is not what you wanted, say so in the thread. β€œToo long,” β€œstick to the New Testament,” and β€œexplain it for a teenager” all work.

Study Guide

Turn a topic into a structured guide you can work through or teach from.

Step by step

  1. 1Switch to the πŸ“– Study Guide tab and enter a topic β€” try β€œFaith and Works in James,” β€œThe Armor of God,” or β€œPrayer in the Psalms.”
  2. 2Berean Study builds the guide with sections, passages and discussion questions, and saves it as it goes.
  3. 3Revise it with one tap: Go deeper, More discussion questions, Shorter, or Simpler language. You can also type your own instruction.
  4. 4Choose Start Checklist to walk the guide section by section and tick off what you have covered.

Worth knowing

  • A topic can be a theme, a book, a chapter, or a single verse.
  • Revisions rewrite the guide in place β€” the checklist follows along.
  • Export the finished guide to Google Docs when you want to edit the wording yourself.

Tip β€” Name your audience in the topic. β€œGrace and works in James, for a Wednesday night adult class” produces a very different guide from the bare topic.

Bible Class

Full lesson plans, plus printables for the people in the room.

Preacher & Teacher and Church plans

Step by step

  1. 1Open the πŸ“š Bible Class tab and describe the class: the passage or theme, the age group, and how long you have.
  2. 2You get a teaching plan β€” aim, outline, Scripture, discussion questions and application.
  3. 3Open Class printables to generate handouts for the same topic: a Word Search, a Crossword, or a Coloring page.
  4. 4Puzzles ask who they are for β€” Kids, Tween or Adults β€” and come back as a PDF ready to print.

Worth knowing

  • Printables are built from Scripture on your topic, not from a generic word list.
  • If a puzzle says it could not find enough words, give it a narrower passage β€” β€œLuke 10” rather than β€œlove”.
  • Send the lesson to Google Slides when you are teaching from a screen.

Tip β€” On a Preacher & Teacher plan, Bible Class and printables are enabled on two of the six accounts. Decide early which two teachers hold them.

Dinner Time Devo

A short devotional built for whoever is around the table tonight.

Step by step

  1. 1Open the πŸ•―οΈ Devo tab and pick who it is for: Family, Ages 3-6, Ages 7-10, Ages 11-13, Ages 14-17 or Adults.
  2. 2Pick a length β€” Quick (2-3 min), Standard (5 min) or Extended (10 min).
  3. 3Give it a topic, or browse the suggested ideas if nothing comes to mind, then choose Generate.
  4. 4Read it aloud from your phone. Save the good ones to Favorites; everything you have made stays under History.

Worth knowing

  • The reading level really does change with the age you choose β€” the same topic for ages 3-6 and for adults are different devotionals.
  • Each devo ends with questions you can actually ask at the table.
  • Share a devo by link so family who are not at dinner can read the same thing.

Tip β€” Pick Family when the ages are mixed. It writes for the youngest person present without talking down to the adults.

Bible

Read the text itself, and ask about the verse in front of you.

Step by step

  1. 1Open the ✝️ Bible tab, choose a book from the Old or New Testament, then a chapter.
  2. 2Use the version toggle to switch translations β€” KJV, ASV, WEB and NKJV in English, with Spanish, French and Ukrainian available too.
  3. 3Tap a verse, or drag across several, to select them. A bar appears at the bottom showing the reference you selected.
  4. 4Choose Ask about this β†’ to carry that exact passage into Q&A without retyping it.
  5. 5Tap a single word to open Word study, and Full lexicon for the longer entry.

Worth knowing

  • Selecting a range works the same on phone and desktop.
  • Word study is the fastest way to answer β€œwhat does that word actually mean here?”
  • Switch translations mid-chapter to compare wording on a difficult verse.

Tip β€” Reading and then asking beats asking cold. Select the verses that prompted the question and the answer stays anchored to them.

Notes

Your own sermon notes and class notes, kept with your studies.

Step by step

  1. 1Open πŸ“ Notes β€” on the web it sits in the top bar, on a phone it is under the β‹― menu.
  2. 2Create a note, give it a title, and type. Notes save as you write.
  3. 3On your phone you can scan handwritten notes instead β€” up to five pages at a time β€” and the text is pulled in for you.
  4. 4Ask Berean Study about a note to have it work from what you wrote.

Worth knowing

  • Scan the notes you took during a sermon, then ask for the passages behind each point.
  • Notes are private to your account.
  • Long notes are fine β€” a note holds far more than a page of handwriting.

Tip β€” Scan while the pages are flat and well lit. A clean scan is the difference between usable text and a retype.

Saving, Sharing & Exporting

The row of icons under every answer. They work the same in Q&A, Study Guide, Bible Class and Devo.

Save to favorites

Keep an answer, guide or devo where you can find it again. Favorites are per account and never expire.

Share a link

Creates a link to that one study and copies it for you. Whoever opens it can read it without an account.

Print

Formats the study for paper β€” for handouts, or for taking a lesson into a class without a screen.

Edit in Google Docs

Sends the study to a new Google Doc on your own Drive, with the headings and citations intact, so you can rewrite it in your own words.

Make Google Slides

Builds a slide deck from a lesson β€” title slide, one slide per section, and your points in the speaker notes.

Thumbs up / thumbs down

Tells us which answers landed. It is the fastest way to make the next one better.

The first time you export to Google

  • Google asks you to sign in and to allow Berean Study to create files. Approve it once and later exports go straight through.
  • The document or deck is created on your Drive and belongs to you. Edit, rename or delete it like any other file.
  • Nothing is shared with anyone until you share it yourself.

Tip β€” Export late, not early. Revise the study inside Berean Study first β€” once it is a Google Doc, further changes are yours to make by hand.

Finding something again

  • Every thread you start is saved. Reopen it and keep asking β€” nothing is lost when you close the app.
  • Study guides and devos have their own History and Favorites lists.
  • Search your past work by what you asked about, then edit or extend it rather than starting over.
  • Your history is tied to your account, so it is the same on your phone and in a browser.

Plans, Family & Billing

Where your plan lives, how to bring your household onto it, and how to change or cancel it.

Checking what you have left

Open Account β€” in the β‹― menu on a phone, in the top bar on the web. It shows your plan, your renewal date, a usage meter, and any welcome questions still on the account.

  • Free β€” 10 welcome questions, then 2 a week. Every tool and every citation included.
  • Personal β€” unlimited questions for one account.
  • Household β€” unlimited, for up to 6 accounts.
  • Preacher & Teacher β€” Household, plus Bible class plans and printables on 2 of the 6 accounts.
  • Church β€” whole-congregation access, priced for your congregation.

See the pricing page for current rates.

Upgrading

  1. 1Go to Account and choose View plans, or open the plans page directly.
  2. 2Pick monthly or yearly. Yearly is charged once and works out to two months free.
  3. 3Pay, and the new limit applies immediately β€” you do not need to sign out and back in.

Tip β€” If you have a coupon, open Redeem in the β‹― menu and enter it under COUPON CODE.

Adding your family (Household and Preacher & Teacher)

A family plan covers six accounts β€” yours plus five. Each person gets their own login, their own history and their own notes.

If you pay for the plan

  1. 1Open Account and find the family plan section.
  2. 2Choose Invite a member to generate a code.
  3. 3Give the code to the person joining. Generate a fresh one for each person.
  4. 4Members appear in the list as they join, and you can remove someone from there later.

If you were given a code

  1. 1Create your own free account and sign in.
  2. 2Open Redeem from the β‹― menu.
  3. 3Enter the code under FAMILY CODE and choose Join family plan.

Tip β€” Leaving a family plan returns that account to the free plan. The studies and notes on it stay put.

Changing or cancelling

Where you cancel depends on where you subscribed.

  • Subscribed on the web β€” open Account and choose Manage billing. That opens the billing portal where you can change your card, switch between monthly and yearly, download receipts, or cancel.
  • Subscribed through the App Store β€” Apple handles the billing. Cancel in Settings β†’ Apple Account β†’ Subscriptions on your iPhone or iPad.
  • A cancelled plan keeps working until the end of the period you have already paid for, then drops back to free.
  • Nothing is deleted when a plan ends. Your studies and notes are waiting if you come back.

Referrals. People who join Berean Study through the studies you share earn you credits. Your referral details are on the Account screen.

Settings Worth Changing

Six switches on the Account screen that change how Berean Study answers you.

Sources

Choose which libraries answers may draw on. Sources are grouped as Scripture, Ministries, Congregations and Mine.

  • Leave everything unchecked to use the whole library β€” that is the default.
  • Check a few to narrow an answer to those sources only.
  • Answers always cite what they used, whichever setting you are on.

Bible version

Pin the translation answers quote from. When it is set, Scripture in your answers comes from that version only; the other sources are unaffected.

  • English: KJV, ASV, WEB and NKJV.
  • Also available in Spanish, French and Ukrainian.
  • Leave it unset to let each answer quote the version that fits.

Language

Change the language of the app and of the answers you get. The Bible reader follows, offering the translations that belong to that language.

Appearance

Light or dark, under Appearance on the Account screen. Worth setting if you read at night or study from a phone in a dim auditorium.

Beta features

Turn on tools we are still finishing. They work, but they change more often than the rest of the app β€” switch them off any time.

Feedback

Feedback in the β‹― menu goes straight to us. Tell us what a study got wrong and include the question you asked β€” that is what we need to fix it.

Where the answers come from

Berean Study does not answer from general knowledge. It searches Scripture and a library of vetted material β€” including Gospel Broadcasting Network, Apologetics Press and World Video Bible School β€” and cites what it used, so you can go and read the source the way the Bereans did in Acts 17:11.

Tip β€” Read the citations. They are there so the study is something you verify rather than something you take our word for.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to pay to try it?
No. A free account comes with 10 welcome questions and then 2 a week, and every study tool is available at the free level. A paid plan raises the limit rather than unlocking features.
Where do the answers come from?
From Scripture and a curated library of trusted material β€” Gospel Broadcasting Network, Apologetics Press, World Video Bible School and others. Every answer cites its sources so you can read them yourself.
Is this the same on my phone and in a browser?
Yes. Sign in with the same account at study.bereanstudy.app, in the iPhone and iPad app, or on Android. Your studies, notes and favorites are the same everywhere. Scanning handwritten notes is a phone feature.
What counts as a question against my limit?
Each new study you ask for β€” a question, a study guide, a class plan, a devo. Reading, editing, sharing, printing and exporting what you already have are free.
Why is the Bible Class tab locked for me?
Bible class plans and printables come with the Preacher & Teacher and Church plans. On a Preacher & Teacher plan they are enabled on two of the six accounts β€” if you are on that plan and the tab is still locked, ask whoever manages the plan to assign one of the two to you.
How many people can use one subscription?
Personal covers one account. Household and Preacher & Teacher cover six β€” you and five others, each with their own login and their own history. Church plans cover a whole congregation.
How do I cancel?
If you subscribed on the web, open Account β†’ Manage billing and cancel there. If you subscribed through the App Store, cancel in Settings β†’ Apple Account β†’ Subscriptions on your device. Either way you keep access until the period you have paid for ends.
Can my congregation use this?
Yes β€” a Church plan covers everyone who teaches, with pricing set for your congregation. It is the right plan when more than two people teach. See the pricing page to book a demo.
An answer looks wrong. What should I do?
Check the citations first β€” they show exactly where the point came from. If it is still wrong, use Feedback in the β‹― menu, or email support@bereanstudy.app, and include the question you asked. Berean Study is a study tool; it is not a substitute for your own reading of Scripture or for the elders and teachers God has given your congregation.
Is my study history private?
Yes. Your threads, notes and favorites are visible only to your account β€” members of a family plan cannot see each other's work. A study is visible to someone else only when you share its link. See the privacy policy for the full detail.
I forgot my password.
Choose Forgot password on the sign-in screen and we will email you a reset link. Use the address you registered with.
How do I delete my account?
Email support@bereanstudy.app from the address on the account and we will delete it and its data. Cancel any active subscription first so you are not billed again.

Still stuck?

Email us and a person will answer β€” usually within one business day. Tell us what you were doing and what device you were on, and we can help far faster.
